Minecraft‘s silent landscaper Steve is exiting his blockly world and stepping into Telltale’s world of stories: Minecraft is getting a “narrative-driven” game from the folks behind The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones games. Like Telltale’s other work, Minecraft: Story Mode will be episodic and available on a wide variety of platforms when it launches “some time in 2015.” Apparently Microsoft’s promise to keep Minecraft multiform is holding, despite the acquisition.

Telltale’s describing the game as a “partnership with Mojang,” and says it won’t exist as an attachment to Minecraft — it’s a standalone episode series “driven by player choice.” Both Mojang and Telltale point out that they’re working with the community to craft the narrative, and Mojang specifically says, “We’re not intending on creating an ‘official’ story for Steve [the main protagonist of Minecraft], or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail.”

There are no images or video of the game in action just yet, but we expect a similar, distinct art style to that of Minecraft.
