Minecraft Live 2020: All the announcements!

With the pandemic nowhere near close to wanting to let us enjoy being out and about, the trend of big gaming announcements happening online carries on. As such, Minecraft Live 2020 happened in early October and as expected, some cool announcements were made. The amount of stuff revealed was not nearly as close to the epicness of Minecon Live 2019. Considering how work has had to adapt over the course of this year, that’s understandable. Still, Minecraft Live 2020 had some pretty nice goodies to share, starting with.

Here we have a quick review of everything announced during Minecraft Live 2020

The Caves & Cliffs Update

The Caves & Cliffs Update

The next big update to Minecraft will involve some TLC to its caves and cliffs systems. This is coming off the heels of the biome update vote that happened during Minecon last year with the Mountain Biome receiving the most votes. And as the people have spoken, both cavernous and mountainous aspects of Minecraft will be getting some love.

On Caves…

Minecraft Live 2020 Caves

Minecraft’s cave generation system will be seeing some improvements in this update. During Minecraft Live 2020, Mojang revealed new types of caves, such as lush caves and dripstone caves. They also mentioned we should prepare to go beyond digging and into the realm of excavation. The Caves & Cliffs update will include a new archaeology system to add a new “sense of history and storytelling” to Minecraft. We should expect to also see our caves populated with stuff like telescopes, crystals and a brand-new hostile mob, the Warden, among other goodies.

…And On Cliffs

Cliffs Update Minecraft Live 2020

Last year’s voted mountain update will be tied into this aspect of the Caves & Cliffs update coming next year. Mojang revealed a new mob, the super cute mountain goat. These furry new friends will be found on the sides and peaks of cliffs and mountains after the update goes live. We don’t know much else about what the Minecraft devs have in-store for the cliff aspect of the update.

New Ore

A cool new ore type was also announced during Minecraft Live 2020. Copper Ore will have the unique property of ageing. This means that as time passes, the ore will turn green, indicating how long it has been left in place. Mojang states that this will give Minecrafters a new way to showcase their mettle and the age of the worlds they build.

New Mobs

Aside from the Warden, the Caves & Cliffs update coming to Minecraft next year will include another cute and cuddly mob…in a bucket! The axolotl is a chameleon-like mob that so far has been shown to come in three different colors, pink, brown and green. Prepare to get your squee on!

Minecraft Dungeons Cross-Play and Other Goodies

Minecraft Dungeons Cross-Play

Minecraft’s dungeon crawling spin-off will also be receiving some update love in December. First, the Howling Peaks DLC will be dropping along with a Season Pass for future content. A new boss, the Tempest Golem will be added with the DLC. Next, the free Apocalypse Plus update will add 20 more difficulty levels beyond Apocalypse VII. There’ll also be a new level cap, as well as items and enchantments to go with it all.

The biggest news, however, was that Minecraft Dungeons will be receiving a full cross-platform play update. This update was slated for November this year.

Lots of cool stuff is coming to both Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons between now and Summer 2021 when the Caves & Cliffs update is slated to release. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
